The art of the chocolatier

After nearly being roasted alive in the library, I had to run the gauntlet of salespeople in the, very small, shopping centre. Do I want to write a will? Buy a life insurance plan? Have I had an accident? (No, but if you get any closer to my face you will). Sky? Electricity? But then I was stopped in my tracks. Thorntons.

Barking really is coming up in the world. I rang my mum to ask when it appeared. Last week came the reply. "I've been in there three times already. Only decent shop the town's got. You have to support it". Quite.

I'm currently meant ot be writing an article for the Barking & District Historical Society about Barking shops. So many good 'uns have gone, I can vaguely recall a Thorntons in the Vicarage Fields Shopping Centre but it disappeared. They're chocolate's genuinely good and reasonably priced. This must mean that I can go back to buying my dirunal course of their marzipan bars ;-)

*Shocked at the typo above, don't know how I managed it. I blame it on my lame tree-state health of present*

I had no idea Barking had an Historical Society...

I worked in Thorntons in Romford (back of Hall of Cards in the Liberty 2 centre) when I was a teenager. Got the sack but couldn't claim unfair dismissal as I worked under 7.5 hours a week. It's how I ended up selling fruit on the market.

Umm, chocolate! The last remaining vice. I'm ashamed to say that I'm addicted to ITV's Wild at Heart, possibly because its sponsored by a chocolate manufacturer!
